The legendary Fjording is Norway’s national horse. The Fjording has its name from the Norwegian famous fjords. It is a rather small but strong horse, used in everyday life, farming and logging in specially the west, steep parts of Norway. The Fjording is one of the worlds oldest horse breeds and it has much in common with the wild horses. In modern times the Fjording is popular because of its good temperament.
At the private museum Vegårshei Bygdetun in Agder, south Norway, it is the Horse’s Day in the summer. Vegårshei Bygdetun is a living museum known to people all over south Norway, and from early spring to late autumn here is many events that shows hove people lived in Norway some hundred years ago. Bygdetunet is known for its activities for people of all ages, the children are not forgotten!
In the Norwegian wood the big logging machines of course has taken the place of the horse. However all over Norway, from Lindesnes to Nordkapp, the North Cape, horse enthusiasts is using the horse for taking out timber from the forests, especially in cold winter when the ground and lakes are frozen.
