This is a fabulous dish. We both love it's simplicity and deliciousness. The recipe is below:
Bread and Butter Pudding
What you need:
8 slices of bread (dry or stale is best)
Butter
A shallow dish
Zest of one lemon
Half a pint of milk in a jug
One egg
2 ounces of fruit (60g / half a cup)
2 ounces of sugar (60g / half a cup)
Nutmeg
What You Need To Do:
Butter the bread and cut into triangles
Place the bread butter side up in the shallow dish and put in half the sugar and half the fruit evenly.
Break the egg into the milk and add a sprinkle of nutmeg and mix
Place the remainder of the bread and add the rest of the fruit and sugar
Pour the custard mix over the bread/mix and leave to rest for half an hour to allow it to soak in.
Then put in the oven at 180C/350F for 30 minutes or until the top is a crispy brown.
Serve and enjoy. We like it best served with custard.
NB You can, also add if using GF bread use 350ml of milk and one more egg.
