#VanLife Road Trip Greece to North Cape and Back
Week 4 of 7
Going into the second half of our #vanlife adventure, we left Lofoten Islands feeling blessed and grateful for making it this far, but also for the opportunity to finally experience this long anticipated bucket list item that is Norway. We headed back North and decided to do a farm stay south of Tromso the next 2 days to take a breath, get laundry done and just take it all in. We had the entire place to ourselves with no others guests for both nights which added to a fantastic stay overall. At this stage 4 days into the Arctic Circle we already had 3 nights of Northern Lights and couldn’t believe our luck. Friday we headed further North and we set up camp next to a river near Alta. The forecast for that night was especially great and we waited… What happened later cannot be described in words or even captured by a camera lens; a truly magnificent display of Aurora Borealis late into the night. This important item on the trip itinerary done and dusted and left us completely satisfied. The next day our final stretch North and we arrived at North Cape (Nordkapp) in glorious sunshine and clear blue skies. Despite the icy wind definitely one of the highlights standing at the famous “globe” monument after driving 6820 km and travelled a total of 117 hours reaching our turning point and the Northern most point of the European continent at 71 degrees North. We made it! What a feeling! We spent the night at Basecamp North Cape before turning the wheels South for the long journey back home. We left Norway with gratitude and such appreciation for her utter beauty, and entered Finland. The next two nights we spent on a husky farm lakeside in Lapland - again completely isolated and private; another wild camping experience. The last day of the week we headed to Rovaniemi (Santa Claus Village) with anticipation and excitement for what the next week will bring.
