WHAT GREAT LEADERS HAVE IN COMMON
               'Hiring The Good Fits'

Their ability to find people who embody their cause makes it much easier for them to provide great leadership and services

THEY  hire  ATTITUDE not SKILLS .Skills can be learned and taught for a specific designation. However if you lack the reason  (WHY)you are passionate about what you are doing, you can't fit into a company's culture. You may be skilled, knowledgeable, have the abilities yet fail to fit. In the opposite, everyone is passionate about something, at interview level, the companys try  to get those who are passionate about what the company believes in,a person who shares the same WHYs, purpose,  cause and  with the company's culture, this is attitude! !Finding people who believe what you believe leads to smooth success.

English adventurer, Shackleton in 20th century was set to make a dangerous Antarctic adventure. Norwegian Roald A. had only became the 1st Explorer to reach South Pole . The frigid journey was to start below South America, over 1700miles across the pole to the  Rose Sea,below New Zealand. Expensive journey of about  $250000 in the 1913s -biggest polar journey !

1914,  Shackleton and a crew of 27 men of valour set for the Weddell Sea on the 'Endurance ',  350-ton ship had been constructed in the midists of a raging World War One in Europe  and money was scarce, private donors, the British government and R. Geographical Society. In the middle of the Southern Atlantic, the ship encountered mile of pack ice, trapped in the fury winter. Ice closed the ship, Shackleton and the crew got stranded for 10 months.

Nov. 21st ,1915, the crew watched as she sank in frigid waters of the Weddell Sea. Stranded again, they boarded their 3 lifeboats and landed on a tiny Elephant Island. There, Shackleton left all behind but 5 of his men and embarked on a 800 miles hazardous journey, rough seas, ripples and strong waves to get help!

What makes the story of the 'Endurance 'remarkable isn't the expedition, it's that in all the ordeals NO ONE DIED!!. No stories of people, fighting each other, blaming each other, quarrelling, eating each other, feeling lonely and desperate, giving up, despising one another  and no mutiny . This wasn't LUCK, Shackleton hired GOOD ATTITUDES, good fits for the culture of survivorship he believed in!! He found the right attitudes, men for the job.

When the company hires good fits, those who believe what it believes, success just happens. Shackleton did this via a simple advert in London Times. Unlike Shackleton, we run job adverts by giving a list of qualifications, experiences, years of service in the expected work, good pay and allowances, great benefits.  Unfortunately all these are about WHAT and not about WHY.

Shackleton's advert was different, he was looking for the crew that belonged on such an expedition. .."Men wanted for Hazardous journey. Small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, constant dangers, safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in case of success ". The applicants for this advert were only those who read, thought it through and found it sounding great!!..Only survivors applied, they were hired because their ability, attitude towards survival was guaranteed! !

When employees belong, they will guarantee your success, they will not be working innovatively for you,but for themselves. Great leaders have in common the ability to find good fits for their organisations -those who believe what they believe. The goal should be to hire, recruit, join, relate, marry, befriend those who are passionate for your WHYs, cause, purpose, believes and those with attitude to fit your culture, after that go for skills, experiences and abilities

Great companies don't hire skilled people then motivate them, they get already motivated people and inspire  them. Unless you give motivated people something to believe in, something bigger than their job to work toward, they will motivate themselves to find new jobs leaving you stuck with whoever is left!
