Join me as I close out my first full day touring the Swiss passes. And what a day...

After the views, the twists and turns, epic scenery and bright blue skies of Grimsel, Furka, Nufenen and St Gotthard passes... I am finally on the big one! My plan was to complete Sustenpass and drop down to Airolo for the night but I had bitten off more than I could chew for the day. Making it only half way along Sustenpass before running out of energy and light, I wild camped above 7000ft in front of the most amazing mountain range I have ever witnessed. A truly special day and night under the Milky Way. Frost on the tent in the morning and crisp blue skies. I can't imagine a better place to road tour.

Built in the late 1930's Sustenpass connects the Bern and Uri Cantons, passing by the Stein Glacier through tunnels and high elevation switchbacks. The corners are smoother, more weaving than on previous passes with their ultralight hairpins and I found it much easier to give it a twist and pick up the pace!

The next day I contemplated doing it back the other way but I had to keep heading Eastward towards Italia baby!
