"Hello, my name is Alan Fogwill. I'm an energy economist. I've been working in the energy sector in Canada for about 35 years now, and I've been studying the intersection between climate change and energy even before that, since about the mid 1980s.
What I'm going to be talking to you about today is a concept called Net-Zero-Not-Zero. And this is about the energy transition, as some people will phrase it, but it really is about an evolution of our energy systems and not necessarily a transition. It's not a start and an end. It's an ongoing change in how we deliver our energy. In the same way we've gone from wood to coal to oil to natural gas, we're going to be moving on and adding in sources, not necessarily taking away in a situation where we try to minimize the carbon footprint of our natural resources and our energy systems so that we can tackle climate change."
