Amazing autumn colors in Iceland. Þingvellir was almost completely deserted during the pandemic of 2020. This 1 hour walking tour leads you through most of the main attractions in Þingvellir.

Information about the tour:
00:25 - Öxará river that runs from Öxarárfoss waterfall.
01:46 - Þingvallabær. A manor house where the government of Iceland sometimes hosts visiting heads of state.
02:57 - Beautiful autumn colors.
05:50 - Þingvellir church.
06:33 - Jónas Hallgrímsson and Einar Benediktsson, poets, are buried within this circle.
09:42 - Flosagjá fissure.
10:52 - Peningagjá fissure (money fissure). It is customary to throw a coin into the water for good luck or to make a wish.
11:26 - Nikúlásargjá fissure.
13:16 - It may not look like it but the bridge was surprisingly slippery with ice.
13:23 - Jakobshólmi.
14:21 - Öxarárhólmi.
15:11 - The flag pole marks the location of Lögberg (Law Rock). This is believed by some to be the location where the Althing parliament gathered centuries ago.
17:19 - Almannagja canyon. This canyon marks the boundary of the Mid-Atlantic rift, which is the space between the North American and Eurasion tectonic plates.
26:30 - Looking over Þingvallavatn lake. The largest natural lake in Iceland.
34:17 - Snorrabúð (Snorri's booth). Named after Saga-age chieftain Snorri Þorgrímsson. Overgrown traces of buildings are visible on the parliamentary site at Þingvellir. These are remnants of shelters or booths in which people stayed during the two week session of the Alþingi (general assemblance) each summer.
35:31 - In recent decades the Icelanders have celebrated their most important national events at Þingvellir.
37:03 - Drekkingarhylur (drowning pool). Executions by drowing took place here.
39:34 - Fangabrekka (Wrestling slope).
46:51 - Öxarárfoss waterfall. It is said some pioneers once dropped an axe into the frozen river, thus naming it “Axe river”. Öxarárfoss basically means “Axe river falls”.
52:19 - Describing the multitude of places where people were executed at Þingvellir. Places such as Drowning Pool, Execution Block Spit, Scourge Islet, Fire Gorge and Gallows Rock.
55:56 - Langistígur. The Walk of Death.
