Orkney’s role as an energy exporter has continued to develop, with oil joined today by wind, tide and wave developments that have put it on the world stage for renewables, and with offshore wind on the way. Work has expanded into hydrogen and battery technology for energy storage, and alternative power sources for ships and aircraft, with each year bringing fresh views ahead. What can we expect over the next 5-10 years – and what infrastructure do we need to put in place to get the maximum benefits?
