A ‘G-Suit,’ lets pilots take tighter turns at higher speeds, giving them a tactical edge.
But there’s more to their outfit than fancy pants. A pilot’s jacket holds their oxygen hose and an inflatable collar to keep them afloat should they need to eject over water. The helmet keeps their head safe, while the mask helps them to breathe at high altitudes and houses a microphone for communications. Fighter pilots display patches on their uniforms – usually their national flag, and a patch commemorating their Air Policing rotation.
The Hungarian Air Force currently has four fighter jets assigned to NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission, which keeps the skies over Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania safe and secure. Air Policing is a normal, peacetime activity conducted 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This is the third time Hungary has led Baltic Air Policing since 2015.
