ODDA, NORWAY — An Australian exchange student studying in Norway fell to her death from the Trolltunga rock formation while posing for a picture on Saturday.
Trolltunga is located in Odda, Norway and sits 2,300 feet over Lake Ringedalsvatnet at the end of a 10.5-mile hike, according to the Huffington Post. Kristi Kafcaloudis, 24, began studying at the University of Bergen in Norway in August. The Huffington Post reported that she was on a hiking trip with a group of 30 people at the popular tourist destination. While getting ready to pose for a picture, Kafcaloudis stumbled and fell over 980 feet. The fall killed her.
TV 2 Norway reported that the woman's body was recovered by Red Cross rescue workers on Sunday night.
Her mother, Milli Kafcaloudis, told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation: "We are only consoled by the fact that Kristi was doing what she loved with her friends and living a life full of adventure and dreams. But, we are mortified by the loss of such a talented and lovely young woman with her whole life before her."
